  • Maker Training Survey


    Craft NI is continuing to develop our maker support options. We plan to run some sessions in the next couple of months, others will be delivered in 2021. The programmes will include both free and paid options presented by industry experts, and elements of peer-to-peer learning where makers can share their experience with one another (we will pay contributing makers for their time).

    We would be delighted if makers would take a few minute to complete this short survey, so we can align our planning with your current needs.

    Craft NI wishes to refresh our database of local photographers experienced in working with 3D craft and design objects including lifestyle and product photography. We therefore invite both Expressions of Interest from photographers and recommendations from makers.

    The Contemporary Ceramics Centre in Russell Street, London is featuring a solo exhibition by Northern Irish potter Adam Frew who works in porcelain to create thrown functional and large one-off pots with intricate, colourful markings.

    An ethereal piece of sculpted glass which embodies the observations of its maker as she took her daily exercise along the North Antrim coast during lockdown has been named the winner of Craft NI’s ‘Unlocked’ exhibition prize.

    This year for August Craft Month, Craft NI teamed up with the Cathedral Quarter Trust to create ‘Craft in the Cathedral Series’.
    We worked with the talented photographer, Carrie Davenport, to capture some of the unique locally handmade craft in different Cathedral Quarter venues - we love how contemporary NI craft looks good in so many different settings.

    Bernadette Tuite - ceramics and glass, will exhibit in 'Unlocked' for August Craft Month to represent Cork Craft and Design and NI's own Claire Mooney - silversmith, has been selected to exhibit her work in Cork Craft and Design in partnership with August Craft Month and Cork Craft Month.

    Kim Mawhinney Craft NI board member and 'Unlocked' curator will be joined by Dr Audrey Whitty to select the exhibition prize winner.


  • R-Space Gallery is continuing to provide support to the community thanks to the National Lottery’s COVID-19 Support Package.


    R-Space Gallery in Castle Street, Lisburn, has received £47,000 from Arts Council National Lottery funds to support their re-opening in Lisburn City amid the COVID-19 pandemic with a deferred annual programme commencing on the 12thSeptember 2020. The grant will allow R-Space to continue to provide its regular artistic services including exhibitions, workshops and activities, engaging with local artists, community groups and members of the public.

    Coronavirus has rained on all our plans for our annual August Craft Month but we hope not totally dampened our spirits! We are aware that social distancing and severe limitations on physical events this year will significantly impact the kind of events that August Craft Month can attract.

  • Launch: Second Series of Making Conversations Podcast


    Makers Robyn Galway & Jemma Millen return as hosts for this second series of Making Conversations Podcast. Series two launches on 18 June 2020 with episode one of ten new maker conversations; featuring Belfast School of Art graduate Zara McLaughlin of Zara Ceramics, speaking about ceramics, her making journey, lock-down graduations and more.

    Episodes are released fortnightly on a Thursday, from the launch date 18 June 2020.
