The appetite for buying craft has increased dramatically over the past ten years, and we want to see the market grow even further. To this end, the Crafts Council and eight national partners*, including Craft NI, have already surveyed thousands of consumers - now we want to understand makers’ side of the story.

Craft NI hosts exhibition of works from the Arts Council’s Contemporary Art Collection25-Nov-2019
A special exhibition at Craft NI’s new Royal Avenue premises featuring selected works from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s contemporary art collection is now open. The exhibition has come about as part of the Arts Council’s new Art Lending Scheme, a free scheme which is open to curators, galleries, and organisations interested in putting works from the Collection on public display.

As one part of improving our communications with the sector, we are proposing the establishment of a Craft Advisory Panel (CAP) to share ideas and initiatives about new developments in the disciplines. We would like your help in identifying the members of our first Advisory Panel.

Craft NI is partnering with the Crafts Council and seven other partners to undertake a study of the UK market for craft.
The Crafts Council partners from across the UK are working together to investigate the characteristics of the market for craft, responding to what The Crafts Council describes as a “noticeable increase in interest in making, from high end purchases to everyday participation.”We want to understand more about how best to stimulate, support and grow that market. We want to know who’s buying craft, what they’re buying and why, how big the market is, how routes to market are changing now and in the near future, and what kind of infrastructure can best support the market.

Michael Rice selected as finalist in the TCB 202005-Oct-2019
Ceramicist, Michael Rice, has been selected as the only Irish finalist in the Taiwan Ceramic Biennale 2020.
Michael Rice is and Irish designer maker currently based in Dubai. He specialises in ceramics and is particularly interested in firing procedures such as Raku, Smoke and Saggar firing; his work is also is concerned with surface, texture, natural geometry, gestalt principals and archetypal forms.

Golden Fleece Award launches newly-designed logo and website26-Jul-2019
The goal of the new website is to create a more user-friendly platform that would highlight the quality of work and diversity of creative practices supported by the Golden Fleece Award.
The new logo is based on the hand-lettered text of the original emblem created by the Award’s founder, Lillias Mitchell, for the Golden Fleece Weaving Workshop that she established at 84 Lower Mount Street, Dublin 2 in 1946.
Processions Banner to be exhibited at the British Textile Biennial23-Jul-2019
A processions banner created in Northern Ireland has been selected to be exhibited at the British Textile Biennial.
The Banner was produced in a collaboration between The Institute for Conflict Research, the artist Rita Duffy, and over 30 women participants from various locations across Northern Ireland.

Visual Artists Ireland (NI) are holding an Information Session, open to all artists (and Craft makers). The session aims to provide information about the Arts Council of Northern Ireland's Support for the Individual Artist Programme or SIAP which is due to open for applications in July 2019.

Launch of Another Économusée18-Jun-2019
Hot Milk Forge is now the eighth Économusée in the UK. It is an initiative of Eamonn Higgins. Eamonn was a participant on the Craft Northern Ireland Making It Programme 2011 to 2013.
There are currently eight Économusée workshops in Northern Ireland. Five are food based. The other three are Craft based and in County Antrim. Steensons Jewellers in Glenarm, Scullion Hurls in Loughguile and Hot Milk Forge in Martinstown.
