Hey Clay! is a national celebration of clay - giving everyone the chance to unleash their inner potter. This is done by venues offering free participation events with clay over the course of the weekend of 17 - 19 May 2019 as part of the Get Creative festival (which runs from 11-19 May 2019). If you are a maker or venue who would like to hold a Hey Clay! event we'd love to hear from you. You can run anything from a half-day session to a number of workshops over all three days.

Application period for scholarships and apprenticeships are now open. QEST supports the training and education of talented and aspiring craftspeople through traditional college courses, apprenticeships or one-on-one training with master craftspeople. Since 1990, QEST has awarded almost 500 Scholarships to talented individuals in around 130 craft skills – including thatching, farriery, basket weaving, cordwaining, carpentry and woodworking, bookbinding, stonemasonry, coppersmithing, metalworking; sculpting, textiles, ceramics, leather working, printmaking and many more.

The Imagine Belfast Festival of Ideas & Politics is running a tongue in cheek competition where you can send photos of ‘wood pellet’ sculptures as a satire on the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme, also referred to as the Cash for Ash scandal.
Craft practitioners are invited to make models and artefacts using wood pellets and to send photos of their creations to the Imagine Belfast Festival which will be available to view on their Instagram platform. A panel of judges including the artist Rita Duffy and Sarah Corbett, founder of the Craftism Collective, will select the most interesting exhibits for display during the festival. A modest prize of £200 will be presented to the winning sculptor.
