A graduate of NCAD, Andrea Hayes developed her art practice through her time on Craft NI’s 2-year making it programme placed at North West Regional College.
She has developed two distinct ranges within her work; mounted and framed textile art pictures - hand painted, stitched and with metallic highlights of copper.
In contrast, larger scale mixed media artworks in which her textile and painting skills are applied onto an aluminium base. These pieces has been showcased in a number of selected exhibitions such as RUA ,Crafts Council of Ireland “Breaking Out”, represented Ireland in the 13th International Textile Exhibition 2009 and was awarded the Contemporary Embroidery prize in the National Crafts Competition 2009.
“My working process is best described as a collage with contrasting elements: paint, fabric, metal and thread. Visually, I am inspired by my surroundings. What I try to capture through all of my work is an ‘essence’, generated through mark-making, surface pattern, colour and texture.”
