Una O'Boyle completed a BTec Diploma in 3d Design specialising in Silversmithing with Distinction at Belfast Metropolitan College in June 2012. She completed several courses in Wax Modelling and Casting in 2014 and both London and Dublin.
She grew up in West Belfast in the late 60s and early 70s during the Troubles. Donegal became her family’s Summer “escape” and the ancient standing stones and rugged landscape became a playground. She listened to her Donegal family refer to beautiful Gaeilge placenames and tell stories of the “little people”.
This duality of upbringing, living in an area of conflict and finding refuge in such rich history and folklore created a strong sense of belonging and provides rich inspiration that soaked into her creative DNA. Una thinks of herself as a storyteller; she designs using silver sheet and sculpts in wax creating pieces that retell ancient stories through contemporary design.
