Clare Mc Comish is a ceramic visual artist from Belfast. She graduated from the University of Ulster, (Fine & Applied Art, Ceramics) and started her business in 2000. Commissions have come from both public and private clients.
Clare has been the recipient of several Individual Artist Awards for ceramic research, development and international residencies from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
She has designed ceramic public art works within Northern Ireland for hospitals, parks and a variety of community settings. More recently she has produced a series of slip-cast/hand sculpted, stoneware and porcelain wall mounted works for homes and interiors.
Her most recent series of work has been inspired by buoys and sea encrustations. They are visual metaphors representing a life so far through unchartered waters. The buoys, loosely tethered, gather memories, relationships, losses, highs and lows. The work is multi fired using stains, glaze, lustre and, at times, fused glass.
