Emma Whitehead is inspired by cartography, taxonomy and the transformation of the discarded and broken.
Hand stitched on fine Irish linen or various heavy weight papers, Emma uses vintage maps and charts, vibrantly coloured silks, recycled jewellery and watch and clock movements to create three ranges; ‘Map Butterflies’, ‘Time Bugs’ and ‘Space Junk’. The finished artworks incorporate origin, place and geography, reminiscent of heyday of the Victorian polymathand explorer.
