In her recent work, Helen has printed and stitched onto high quality cream, manufactured woollen felt for its smooth surface. The work is influenced by the Burren planes in County Clare.
“In amongst the rock formations, or shifts, in the Burren grows some of Europes most varied flora. While the shadows and shape of the negative spaces created in the limestone is the focus of the works, abstract splashes of coloured stitching makes references to small wildflowers or plant life.”
Her artwork has been exhibited in Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, USA, Australia, Budapest, Finland and Bulgaria. Her work is also in public collections, including The Royal Victoria Hospital, St Anne’s Cathedral and The University of Ulster, Belfast.
Helen has 5 years experience as Textile Art Lecturer at the University of Ulster. Helen has also taught many adult workshops at home and abroad and was an invited tutor at the Textile Fibre Forum, Mittagong and Geelong, Australia.
