Patricia lives and works on the Ards Peninsula, a narrow finger of land that has the wildness of the Irish Sea to the east and the fast flowing seawaters of Strangford Lough to the west.
The work is very site specific, both for its environment and ancestry. She gathers materials from a place to make her work.
It’s not just about capturing the forms and textures of a place, but also its very essence, by being made from it.
Patricia works in three different ways by making her own glazes from local wood, by pit firing with locally collected fuel and by mixing site-specific materials into clay.
Patricia taught for 25 years and is now pursuing a fulltime career in ceramics. She has work selected for the RUA 2014 and won the Margaret Ravey Award for Best Achievement from SERC.
