René works in printmaking and textiles from a private studio on the Ormeau Road, Belfast. Mainly working with natural materials, primarily Irish Linen, her work involves silk screen printing and exploring her love of the Irish language in her work.
René's work is informed by a sense of place. Having lived away from Ireland for 13 years, she longed for connection and found it through typography and graphic illustration. Screen printing is a tactile and physically demanding process that René finds energising and exciting.
"I print on paper and textiles, with linen and wool my preference. I have ancestry links to the linen industry with my mothers family flax growers and my fathers flax millers. My work often includes words 'as gaeilge' (in Irish) again reconnecting me with my homeland. I work from a small studio at my Belfast home as well as the Belfast Print Workshop."
René's design studio is ‘placed’ - you can see a full portfolio of her work here www.placed.ie (currently under maintenance).
