Digital Programme for NI Craft Sector Update
The first sessions of the new partnership between Craft NI and Fablab NI have taken place, with 11 craft businesses taking part in the introductory sessions run by Fab Labs in the Nerve Centre, Derry~Londonderry and the Ashton Centre, Belfast.
A FabLab (fabrication laboratory) is a fabrication workshop which gives users the capability to turn their ideas and concepts into reality. Using open source design software and a selection of computer controlled machines - including 3d Printers, Laser cutters, Milling machines and CNC Routers - users can design and make almost anything they want.
The new Digital programme between FabLab NI and Craft NI offers specific access to NI-based Craft Businesses to the Labs for introductory training in Digital Design and Fabrication, as well as access to machinery to turn ideas into reality and explore new production processes. These applications are not just restricted to product design but also have real applications for the craft businesses in driving innovation in packaging and display.
Those who have taken part in the opening sessions are now able to access FabLab facilities by appointment.
Keep an eye on the Craft NI website and future opportunities e-bulletins for further information on how you can benefit for the next stages of the programme.
