NI Makers in the News in September

August Craft Month may have come to a close but September was another great month of activity for Northern Irish designer-makers. Here are just a few highlights of what's been going on.

 

 

 

Makers on the Move

Ceramicist Derek Wilson and glass artist Scott Benefield were among the Design and Craft Council 'Weathering' exhibition, which was part of the London Design Festival (18-21 September). NI Contemporary jewellery, Samantha Moore, took part in week one of the annual Goldsmith's Fair in London.

Great Craft Locations

St George's Market won a National Lottery Award in the heritage category and were back on BBC One on the 19th of September to receive the award.

Maven, Belfast, has been voted one of the Irish Times' Top Ten interior stores.(Karishma Kusurkar who heads for Manchester to attend the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair in October is also hosting the October Maven session which is now sold out!).

Best at Business

Congratulations to Studio Souk in Belfast who took their place in the 10th annual Belfast Business Top 50 awards, and Dr Sarah McAleer Jewellerysmith who was shortlisted in the Creative Category for a North Down Business Award 2014.

Developing the Discipline

Textile artist/feltmaker Jacki Sleator, is the first Regional Co-ordinator for the International Feltmakers' Association in Northern Ireland the Republic of Ireland. She will be planning events for members in these regions in the near future.
