The Arts Council of Northern Ireland has published a new and extensive report examining the impact of the arts on Northern Ireland society and economy.

Craft NI study visit to Finland supports learning & skills development
3rd November 2010
A group of six lecturers, training managers and policy makers, from Northern Ireland’s business and education sectors, were given a unique insight into the rich culture of Finland’s craft industry as part of a study visit, organised by Craft NI, earlier this month.

This winter one of Northern Ireland's most prominent jewellers, Fiona Kerr, will exhibit at Yorkshire Sculpture Park alongside other talented UK and International makers.

Making it 09 participant launches Blacksmith Business
2nd November 2010
This month a new craft business, 'Cold Iron', opens its doors at Oxford Island in Craigavon. The business is run by talented blacksmith, Steven Murphy, with the support of Craft NI's making it 09 programme.

Glass artist, Pia Raeymaekers, unveils new work at major UK craft fair
20th October 2010
Pia, a Belgian glass artist now living in Northern Ireland, exhibits new work in glass and ceramics at the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair. A major event in the UK craft calendar, the fair took place in Manchester this month.

Five NI designer-makers selected for top UK selling events

This Autumn five designer-makers from Northern Ireland will be taking part in two key selling events for contemporary craft with support from Craft NI's Trade Development Programme.

Craft NI gallery receives record numbers for Culture Night Belfast 2010

Over 1,000 people visited Craft NI's gallery as part of Culture Night Belfast on 24 September to preview an exhibition of glass and ceramics by Rachel Dickson and Alison Lowry.

Slow Coast Ireland documents the work and studios of NI designer-makers

On 10th August 2010 Nick Hand set off on his bicycle to document artisans live and work along Ireland’s coastline. Setting off from Belfast, Nick visited a total of 32 creative businesses on the Island of Ireland.

Charity Auction calls for bids on collectable work by NI Silversmith

Members of the public are being asked to bid for Northern Ireland Silversmith, Cara Murphy, one of 74 UK celebrities, craftspeople and artists, who has been commissioned for the Branching Out project.

Craft NI is nearing the end of its current strategy, 2008-11 and is developing a new plan for the next three year period. The Board of Craft NI is consulting with key individuals, groups and organisations in Northern Ireland that have an interest in the development of the craft sector to inform its 2011-14 plan.

New £700,000 arts fund launched

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland's new £700,000 Arts & Older People Programme will provide new opportunities for older people to engage with the arts.

Arts Council Scheme Highlights Artistic ACES
11th August 2010
The £65,000 funding scheme will offer artists, working in music, visual arts, literature, and participatory arts, the opportunity to apply for a £5,000 bursary. The scheme will enable artists to boost their careers by partnering with a professional organisation to deliver new creative work. It is expected that up to 13 artists will benefit from this new investment between now and March.

Designer-makers put their own spin on Belfast graffiti art. The famous sheep outside the Waterfront Hall were the first to get the woolly jumper treatment and throughout August skilled knitters will wrap their imaginative creations around public property.

Collective Contemporary Art: New Project for RDS

The Royal Dublin Society (RDS) is to embark on a new project Collective Contemporary Art: RDS. CCA: RDS will feature 120 artists, 2 exhibitions and a programme of talks and workshops. CCA: RDS will be selected by an international panel from applications along criteria based on quality, exhibition track record and professionalism.
