Call: Darkness Exhibition @ R-Space Gallery, Lisburn

Calls for Makers 28-Oct-2017 - 23-Nov-2017

R-Space Gallery, Lisburn, are now calling for makers to submit proposals responding to the theme of 'Darkness', for a new exhibition showing 28 October - 23 November 2017. Makers should submit their proposals before 26 September.

Darkness, the polar opposite to brightness, is understood as a lack of illumination or an absence of visible light .

Humans are unable to distinguish colour in conditions of either high brightness or darkness. [1] In conditions of insufficient light, perception is achromatic and ultimately, black.

The emotional response to darkness has generated metaphorical usages of the term in many cultures.

Complete darkness is when the sun is more than 18 degrees below the horizon.

R-Space are looking for work that involves:

The Perception ~ The Physics ~ The Technical ~ The Cultural ~ The Artistic ~ The Literature ~ The Religion ~ The Philosophy ~ The Poetry ~ The Language ~ The Mythology of Dark – Darkness

Proposals are sought from artists at any stage of their career, working in any media, who are based in Northern Ireland. Five selected artists will receive a fee for a talk and exhibiting work.

This group exhibition will explore artists and makers different approaches to the materials they choose to work with and why, the messages and meaning they wish to convey using those materials, what those messages are and the methods of production and process they use to make the work.
