This is an open call for designer makers, museums, organisations and collectives to apply to be part of presentation during Dutch Design Week 2020. The aim of the presentation is to showcase surprising ways in which flax and linen can be seen.

This will be showcased during Dutch Design Week 2020, depending on COVID-19 developments.

Designer makers and technical experts who use flax, linen or flax seed in their work and / or research in an innovative way. A selection of participants will be chosen from the submissions. To meet the selection criteria the work should be unique, innovative and fit the theme, as well as making an interesting contribution to the overall presentation. There are costs involved with participating, depending on the manner of presentation and the number of participants. We will inform you about this as soon as possible.

The Linen Project will also be presented with HOW & WOW,the Linen Project is an initiative of ArtEZ MA Practice Held in Common and the Dutch Crafts Council. This project arose from thequestion of whether it is possible to produce linen in the Netherlands in an economically profitable manner. Flax construction has a long history in the Netherlands and although a lot of flax is still grown in Europe, the processing of flax mainly takes place in China. Increasingly, people are realizing that this is depleting the earth and linen is being rediscovered as a sustainable alternative to cotton.

Deadline for proposals: Sunday, 10 May 2020.
