Call: Kilkenny Shop Seeks Best in Irish Craft & Design
Kilkenny Shop is launching its inaugural Kilkenny Open Call event this October in a bid to discover new Irish talent, as part of their continued ethos to support Irish. Makers will have the opportunity to pitch their product at the RDS. Apply before 1 September.
Home grown designers will have the opportunity to showcase and pitch their work to the famous Irish retailer at their ‘open call’ event in Dublin’s RDS on Thursday, 12 October. The best designers will have their products stocked and sold at Kilkenny, a name synonymous with promoting the very best of Irish craft and design for more than 50 years.
All designers and craft makers with a product that is ready to be sold are invited to attend Kilkenny Open Call, including those working in fashion, accessories, textiles, jewellery, glassware, ceramics, pottery, fragrance and wellness.
Applicants will have the unique opportunity to pitch to CEO Marian O Gorman and Kilkenny’s Group’s buying department at the event.
Head of Buying at Kilkenny Group, Melissa O Gorman, said, “We are hoping to discover new talent to add to the rich mix of unique Irish products that we currently offer, including household names like Orla Kiely, Nicholas Mosse, Waterford Crystal, and Fee G.
“We hope that all established and aspiring designers and makers will join us on October 12, as it’s a fantastic way for our buyers to select new talent that would otherwise be difficult to find. We can’t wait to see what we discover.”
In developing this exciting initiative, Kilkenny has worked closely with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI), the national agency for the commercial development of Irish designers and makers.
Brian McGee, Market Development Director at DCCoI said: “Kilkenny Group has been at the forefront of promoting Irish design for many years so this is a wonderful opportunity for emerging designers and craftspeople in Ireland to have their products stocked in such a reputable store.”
Kilkenny is home to Ireland’s largest collection of Irish designers and it has in fact launched the international careers of many well-known Irish designers including Orla Kiely and Rebeka Kahn.
Successful applicants will be notified in September and given a 10-minute slot to present at the Kilkenny Open Call event in the RDS this October, demonstrating why their brand belongs at Kilkenny.
Those who are chosen to be stocked at Kilkenny will also be given an incredible mentoring and support programme from the buying team, including expert advice and insights into the design and craft trade in Ireland, along with a full marketing and PR plan that will bring their brand to the next level.
If you are interested in attending Kilkenny Open Call, you will need to fill out an application form on their website (link below) before 1 September.
