UKNA City Takeover: Leicester 2021 Micro-Residencies
UK New Artists is seeking up to 70 new artists from across the UK to takeover the city of Leicester for a long weekend.
Exhibitions, performance, music, writing and film will animate cultural spaces and unusual places, presenting the work of emerging practitioners at the leading edge of contemporary arts.
New for the Leicester City Takeover, artists can apply not to show a particular piece of work, but to participate in one of three collaborative residencies. The micro-residencies offer a three day retreat to connect and unite new thinking. Based on UKNA’s Weekenders, the residencies will create a space that is open; supportive; investigative and places no pressure to get it right all of the time. Artists will come from a range of art forms, from dance to architecture; music to photography; poetry to sculpture - but are not defined by this. You are welcome to leave your practice at the door and explore your ideas and creativity in unfamiliar ways, supported by the Producer (Interdisciplinary Residencies). There is little expectation beyond being curious and having time to think and to learn and share with others.
You will also have time to see other artists’ exhibitions and performances and to connect with them through social spaces.
The three micro-residency themes are Sustainability, Placemaking and Common Interest. You can find more information about these themes in the artist information pack.
Artists will receive a £100 fee, plus accommodation, travel bursary, artwork shipping, food and all technical/venue costs are covered by UKNA.
