    'For Want of a Nail', refers to the proverb dating from the 13th century that exists in various versions, in different cultures and times.

     

    It describes a situation whereby the oversight of a small detail might lead to major unforeseen consequences. Such chains of causality are generally only seen in hindsight.

    Lustre & InFlux presents the innovative work of Ireland’s newest goldsmithing and ceramic graduates of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland’s Centres of Excellence in Jewellery and Goldsmithing and in Ceramics in Kilkenny. A National Design & Craft Gallery touring exhibition, Lustre & InFlux will be opened at Farmleigh Gallery by Oliver Sears, Director of the Oliver Sears Gallery, Dublin, on Thursday 27th September 2018 and will run until 8th January 2019.

    On 3 and 4 October, the Island Arts Centre in Lisburn hosts a varied design-led programme, bringing a number of international speakers and facilitators to join with local talent in a celebration of the fibre we think of as our very own. Speakers include Mary Mullin of the Robin & Lucienne Day Foundation, Dutch Designer Christien Meindertsma and Tara St James of PRATT Institute’s Sustainable Textile Lab, alongside Mario Sierra of Mourne Textiles, Trish Belford of Tactility Factory and many more.
