Craft NI Craft Advisory Panel Announced
As the sector lead body for craft in Northern Ireland, Craft NI is delighted to have established a Craft Advisory Panel who are contributing their time and expertise to advising us on the key material disciplines and on strategy and priorities.
Thank you to all makers who nominated members towards the end of last year.
The members are:
- Jill Graham (jewellery & metal),
- Scott Benefield (glass),
- Chris McHugh (ceramics & Ulster University),
- James Adair (leather & saddlery)
- Mark Hanvey (wood),
- Karen Daye-Hutchinson (mixed media) and
- Mario Sierra (textiles)
- Rory Shearer, Craft NI
Amidst ongoing restrictions, the panel had their first meeting online on 8 April. Welcomed by Rory Shearer (Board member and Chair of the panel) and
Katherine McDonald (Director), the group was briefed on the background and context of their role, central to which is the experience each member
has in their own disciplines, and how they’ll help Craft NI to develop strong communication channels in each of the disciplines.
Given that we were only a week or two into lockdown, this initial discussion was understandably led by these events. Katherine also gave the panel a brief overview of Craft NI’s intentions for 2020/21 which include: development of a new NI Maker Directory; professional development training; gallery exhibition programme (covid issues not withstanding).
Rory Shearer, Craft NI Board Member and Chair of the Panel, said: “We are very grateful to the panel members for agreeing to give their time to advising Craft NI, particularly as the sector faces such a challenging environment. We are looking forward to working together and we know the sector will benefit from their expertise and experience. “
